BABA PIE – Assembly House 44 Canal Road Armley

Opening 9th June 6PM – 9PM

10th – 14th June 12PM – 5PM

Baba Pie is an exhibition of 6 studio holders from Rhubaba gallery and studios in Edinburgh, at Assembly House, Leeds. Both are artist run studio and gallery spaces; Assembly House, established 2014, is located within a repurposed mill, and led by a dedicated group studio holders. The exhibition will be free and open to the public, and will run from 9th-14th June 2017. All of the artists are Edinburgh College of Art alumni; Amy Boulton, Morwenna Potter and Beth Longmore all graduated with BA (Hons) in 2015, while the other three artists attended the MFA programme, Emma Drye (2014 graduate), Chris Walker (2004) and Mark Haddon (1992). The organisers are Amy Boulton (Rhubaba) and Suzy Babington (Assembly House).

As well as contributing to Leeds’ blossoming artist-led scene, the aim of this exhibition is to discover how the cultural exchange of Scottish and English artist-led activity can build relationships between the two groups of art practitioners. It will enable the studio-holders from Edinburgh and Leeds to share experiences, resources, and the know-how vital to sustaining a practice in the north of Britain.

The opening night will feature a live performance by Emma Drye. In addition to the exhibition, the workshop The A to Z of Artist-Led will be held in the project space on Saturday 10th June, led by artist Amy Boulton. Through a series of collaborative tasks such as manifesto and zine production, the workshop aims to generate discussion and mutual support around artist led activities. This workshop will be free and open for anyone to attend but is aimed primarily at emerging artists in Leeds.
